Jouni Rahikainen remontoi avopuolisonsa kanssa keittiönsä uuteen uskoon keväällä 2017. Jouni oli suunnitellut materiaalivalintoja jo pitkään, mutta remontin saatua alkusykäyksen, suunnitteluavuksi tuli Jounin elokuvalavastajana toimiva veli. Yhdessä tuumin keittiö suunniteltiin yksityiskohtia myöten dramaattisen tummaksi ja toiminnoiltaan kompaktiksi.
Keittiömestari Jouni Rahikainen on kiertänyt maailmaa työskennellen arvostetuissa ravintoloissa mm. Englannissa ja Australiassa. Vuonna 2010 Suomeen paluun jälkeen hän on työskennellyt mm. ravintola Murussa ja Kämpissä ja on nykyisin oman catering-yrityksen lisäksi osakkaana Lonna-saaren ravintolassa. Jouni muistetaan myös kauden 2015 Top chef -kilpailusta, jossa hän oli finaalinelikossa.
- Talo, jossa asumme, on rakennettu vuonna 1961. Asunnolle ei oltu vuosikymmenien aikana tehty juuri mitään, joten putkiremontin tultua ajankohtaiseksi, päätimme ryhtyä tuumasta toimeen ja remontoida koko asunnon samalla kertaa. Saimme ikään kuin kaksi kärpästä yhdellä iskulla, Jouni kertoo.
Huonejärjestystä vaihdettiin remontin yhteydessä, sillä keittiö sijaitsee nyt entisen vaatehuoneen kohdalla ja makuuhuone siirtyi vanhan keittiön paikalle. Putkityöt oli helppo teettää putkiremontin yhteydessä, koska lattiat laitettiin joka tapauksessa uusiksi. Nyt asuntoa koristaa klassinen kalanruotoparketti, joka on tammen sävyssä ajattoman kaunis.
Entinen keittiö oli Jounin mukaan ”masentava koppi”, joka ei houkuttanut ruoanlaittoon kotona.
- Nyt kun fasiliteetit ovat kunnossa, olen laittanut kotonakin ruokaa, hän naurahtaa.
Keittiöremontti eteni hyvin suoraviivaisesti kun mielikuva uudesta keittiöstä oli selvillä. Tummat kaapit löytyivät Domuksen keittiömallistosta ja koneet hankittiin Gigantista. Remontin Jouni teki itse isänsä avustuksella ammattimiesten hoitaessa vain putki- ja sähkötyöt.
Uutta keittiötä suunniteltaessa Jouni päätti ensimmäisenä, että keittiön työtasot ja koneet olisivat rosteria. Vuosia ammattikeittiössä viettäneenä Jouni toteaa niiden olevan itsestään selvä valinta, sillä rst-tasot ovat paitsi kestäviä, myös hygieenisiä ja ne kuluvat käytössä tasaisen kauniisti. Keittiön kahdella pitkällä seinällä on Stalan rosteriset keittiötasot ja saarekkeeseen, joka myös toimii tarjoilutasona, valittiin massiivipuu tuomaan hieman lämpöä tummien elementtien lisäksi. 
Välitilaan Jouni halusi valmiiksi kuluneen näköisen pinnan, sillä hän ei halunnut perinteistä lasia tai kaakeleita, joita pitää olla koko ajan puhdistamassa. Betoni on valmiiksi käytetyn näköinen ja helppohoitoisempi kun sen päällä on suoja-aine. Jouni teki välitilan betonitasoituksen itse, sillä hän halusi sen olevan hieman elämää nähneen näköinen. Oma kädenjälki toden totta näkyy tässä keittiössä.
- Remonttimiehet hieman ihmettelivät ratkaisua ja kyselivät tuleeko tähän betonin päälle maali tai kaakeli, sillä he eivät olleet uskoa, että välitila jää näin rouhean betoniseksi, Jouni kuvailee.
- Putkiremontti kesti talon osalta reilut 4 kuukautta ja asunnon remontti siihen päälle, eli noin puoli vuotta kotimme oli remonttitilassa. Olimme suunnitelleet remontin etukäteen huolella, joten ikäviä yllätyksiä ei onneksi ilmaantunut ja olemme lopputulokseen erittäin tyytyväisiä, Jouni myhäilee.
Nyt kun remontti on onnellisesti ohi, kotona kasvaa taas seinällinen yrttejä, joita Jounin avopuoliso kasvattaa. Ikkunaa vasten rakennetulta kasvihyllyltä löytyy mm. erilaisia yrttejä, tomaatteja ja mandariinipuu. Jounin ruokafilosofian mukaan ruoanlaitossa tule käyttää mahdollisimman paljon laadukkaita, lähellä tuotettuja luomutuotteita. Oma kasvatus tukee hyvin tätä filosofiaa. 
Remontin valmistumisen kunniaksi Jouni valmistaa parsasalaatin, jonka hän tarjoilee uppomunien kera.

Pese ja pilko salaatti tai jätä se isoiksi lehdiksi. Paista parsat pannulla pienessä öljytilkassa muutaman minuutin ajan, mausta suolalla ja pippurilla.
Kuumenna kattilassa vesi kiehuvaksi ja lisää siihen suolaa ja reilusti etikkaa. Kaada kananmunat kiehuvaan veteen ja keitä n. 2,5 minuuttia. Nosta kauhalla pois ja anna hieman jäähtyä.
Kasaa annos lautaselle ja koristele se syötävillä kukilla. Lorauta annoksen päälle hieman öljyä tai vinegrettiä maun mukaan ja nauti!
