Tästä ihmetyksestä sai alkunsa keittiöremontti, jossa purettiin kaikki katosta lattiaan – ja vähän seinääkin.
Marraskuisena perjantai-iltanapäivänä huomasin keittiön allaskaapin pohjalla vettä. Sitä tippui vesilukosta hitaasti mutta tasaisesti. Kuivasin kaapin pohjan, avasin vesilukon, putsasin sen varmuuden vuoksi ja tarkistin, että se oli varmasti paikallaan. Vuoto lakkasi. Ehdin jo huokaista helpotuksesta ja jatkaa keittiöhommia, kun totesin, että sukkani kastuvat, vaikka lattia näytti kuivalta. Talloin lattiaa tiskialtaan edessä. Laminaatin raoista tihkui vettä.
Niin vähän kuin näistä asioista ymmärrän, jostain selkäytimestä tuli ajatus, joka sai minut vaistonvaraisesti tarttumaan aseisiin: sen enempää miettimättä otin keittiöveitsen ja väänsin lattialistat irti. Sen jälkeen aloin irrottaa laminaattilaattoja keittiöstä löytyviä työvälineitä käyttäen. Revin laattoja irti niin kauan, että alta paljastui kuivaa muovimattoa. Vesi oli levinnyt noin puoleen 15-neliöisestä keittiöstämme.
Vesivahinko syntyi vesilukon vuotamisesta - puolet keittiön lattiasta oli märkää.
Kun vahinkotarkastaja seuraavalla viikolla saapui, kuulin toimineeni ihan oikein. Lattia ja vesipisteen seinustan kaappien rungot olivat kuitenkin entisiä. Pieni vuoto vesilukossa oli ehtinyt saada paljon aikaan. Laminaatin alla ollut muovimatto oli ehtinyt kostua ja laminaatti oli entinen. Eikä lattian korjaus onnistuisi vain puolesta keittiöstä vaan se pitäisi uusia kokonaan. 90-luvun muovimatto kannattaisi muutenkin poistaa betonipinnalta liimoineen kaikkineen, vaikkei siitä asbestia löytynytkään. Edessä oli siis välttämättä remontti.
Olimme tehneet 90-luvun alun keittiölle kasvojenkohotuksen 9 vuotta sitten taloon muuttaessamme. Silloin korkkia jäljitellyt muovimatto sai päälleen tummanharmaan laminaatin, puiset ovet maalattiin valkoisiksi, tasot vaihdettiin ja seinät maalattiin. Myös kodinkoneet uusittiin ja joitakin alakaappeja vaihdettiin vetolaatikoiksi vuosien varrella.
Vanhaa keittiötä oli kevyesti uudistettu muuton yhteydessä 9 vuotta sitten.
Periaatteessa keittiössä ei ollut mitään akuuttia vikaa, sillä se oli ihan toimiva eikä suoranaisesti sattunut silmiin. Remontti oli kuitenkin viisivuotissuunnitelmassa siksi, että sen tyyli ei varsinaisesti imarrellut 70-luvun arkkitehtuuria, jota talo muuten edusti. Niinpä revittyä keittiötä katsellessani aloin miettiä asian valoisia puolia. Ehkä tämä oli hyvä syy uusia koko keittiö kerralla.
1. Porrasaulan ja keittiön välistä seinää purettaisiin, jotta valo pääsee kulkemaan talon läpi vapaammin ja jotta iso porrasaula saadaan paremmin käyttöön.
2. Ainakin osasta kaapinovia tulee tammiviiluisia, jollaisia ovat kaikki asunnon muutkin väliovet.
3. Välitilan hyväkuntoinen marmorilaatta säästetään.
Kaikki muu oli avointa. Suunnitelmien varrella pyöriteltiin mahdollisuutta muuttaa suurin osa kaapistoista ja jopa vesipiste ikkunaseinälle. Niin ikään mukana kulki pitkään ajatus lieden siirtämistä ikkunoiden väliseen niemekkeeseen.
Lukuisten piirustusten, Pinterest-istuntojen ja suunnitelmanmuutosten jälkeen päädyttiin kuitenkin varsin vastaavanlaiseen asetelmaan kuin mikä keittiössä oli ollutkin. Eihän siinä mitään vikaa ollut alun perinkään.
Keittiö tilattiin Lahden Kalustetukusta, josta meillä oli hyvää kokemusta aiemman kodinhoitohuoneremontin osalta. Pidimme myös siitä, että Charmia-kalusteet ovat Suomessa suunniteltuja, kotimaisia avainlipputuotteita ja tulevat tehtaalta rungot kasattuina.
Kuulimme kyllä monta suositusta Ikean puolesta, mutta päädyimme silti kotimaiseen. Kalustetukun puolesta puhui myös aamiaiskaappi, jota ei ainakaan suoraan olisi Ikean valikoimasta löytynyt ja jollaisen olin varsin nopeasti tajunnut ehdottomasti haluavani.
Kalustetukun myymälässä meille esitetiin myös Stalan keittiöallasvalikoimaa. Tässä vaiheessa emme olleet vielä lopullisesti päättäneet pöytätasojen materiaalia. Puu ei tiskialtaan ympärillä olisi paras mahdollinen, mutta avonaisilla työtasoilla sen lämpö houkutteli. Niinpä pitkään mietimmekin, millainen kivitaso sopisi tiskipöytäseinustalle. Sitten meille esiteltiin StalaTex.
